Shopping Small in the South Sound
The local shops we love with options to tackle your gift list.
Emma and I hit the town…s on Small Business Saturday to shop some of our favorite spots. It was a fun afternoon that included a bit too much coffee, some great treats, and lots of stories and laughter. Read below to check out some of our best finds of the day and some all time favorites. I’ve linked the shops and some of the items, and over the next couple of weeks, I’ll highlight gift ideas with social media posts that show more of what we found and where we found it. Happy shopping!
Many of these options offer online shopping and shipping services to help make life even easier.
Pine & Moss | DuPont
Their charcuterie supplies are on point and ready for gifting and party prep. Pick a gorgeous basket and fill it with goodies for the person that loves to host. Other favorites include the Washington Wine & Food Cookbook, candles from Bridgewater Candle Co, and the Farm Fresh beauty line. For your always on the go friend, they have a collection of Scout Bags and Swig drinkware. Bonus - They deliver locally and offer shipping services, and owner, Kimberlee Cavin, is happy to put together a custom curated gift for you!
27 West | DuPont
This awesome boutique carries some fantastic clothing lines along with locally made jewelry and bath products. Grab a cozy sweater or scarf for your friend that values warmth, snag the linen/room spray for your friend that loves comforting scents, and snag a pair of Clad in Clay earrings for your accessory loving friend like these Classic Cowprint Arches! Don’t know what to get? Let Stephanie Curnow and her staff help! They are great at putting outfits and gifts together and love putting their skills to use!
The Shiplap Shop & Coffee House | Yelm
Grab a scone or donut and a cup of coffee and peruse farmhouse decor, beautifully refinished furniture, farmhouse decor, and housewares. The wood and resin charcuterie boards from WhaleBirdz are definitely on my list (they also have an Etsy store), and I have my eye on a few of their refinished furniture pieces.
Mince Mercantile | DuPont
Mince is a go-to spot for local gifts. They have a great selection of PNW gear, gifts for kids, craft beer, small batch cider, and gourmet food. The build your own 6 pack is a fun option for your craft beer/cider fam. To top things off, Mince Mercantile’s cafe sandwiches, salads, and desserts are amazing, so plan to hit them up around lunchtime!
Ember Goods | Olympia
I love a shop that combines good coffee with shopping, and Ember Goods does that well. For your outdoorsy/PNW lovers, hit them up. Grab a Rumpl Beer Blanket or two to add to the custom 6 pack that you picked out at Mince Mercantile, a Muir coffee canister and a bag of whole bean, an Upper Left USA t-shirt or hoodie, and/or a Rumpl Blanket. Everything is great here.
Ground Up PDX | Portland
Ground Up Nut Butters are delicious, handcrafted, nut butters made from clean ingredients by a company with a loving cause. They provides job training, employment, and security to women overcoming adversity in the Portland area. They ship!! My favorites are the Cinnamon Snickerdoodle and Salted Eggnog. Buy one or two and add the Nut Butter Cookbook for a tasty and adorable gift.
Peanut-Free | No Palm Oil | Refined Sugar-Free | Dairy-Free | Gluten-Free
Compass Rose | Olympia & Tacoma
Compass Rose has been a longtime favorite. They have locations in Downtown Olympia and the Proctor District of Tacoma. Their local jewelry lines are funky, fun, and affordable. Splendor & Stone might be my newest love, and Emma is going to freak when she sees the Serpentine Drop Earrings that we got her. I broke down here and bought myself a few things like The Nicks Earrings. If you have a home chef on your list, their collection of cookbooks and kitchen items are impressive! They carry Le Creuset, Jacobsen Sea Salt, and an assortment of lines to make any kitchen lover happy.
Trove Provisions | Puyallup
Trove Provisions is the place to go for curated gift boxes featuring gourmet foods, tea, and cocktail supplies. They have pre-packaged options, or you can visit the shop or call in to have them customize a box for you. Curated gift boxes can be picked up or shipped by Trove Provisions.
Captain Little | Olympia
The littles on your list would probably love it if you took a trip to Captain Little. The whole store is a littles paradise of toys, games, books, and art supplies. Emma says that the avocado stuffed toys are the best, but she’s a bit biased towards all things avocado. I gravitated to the art supplies and books.
Browsers Books | Olympia
For the readers, Browsers Books is the place to go. You can shop in person or order online for shipping or in-store pickup. If they don’t have a book in stock, they can usually order it and have it within a few days. Try them before Amazon! Their prices are competitive, and they’re lovely. For your design friend, go for Jungalow Decorate Wild by Justina Blakeney. It’s full of gorgeous photos, design and color coaching, and dreamy inspiration. Kick your design gifting up a notch by visiting the Jungalow Decorate Wild online shop.
LRS.Originals | DuPont
My friend, Lydia, makes some of the best beanies, ear warmers, and lightweight leather earrings! When time permits, she takes custom orders (which is how my kids came to own their warm and colorful, rainbow beanies that they’ve loved for 3 or 4 years now). She makes beanies in baby, little, and adult sizes. You can find her at many of the area markets, but she also sells off of Instagram. Follow her on Instagram to find out where she’ll be next!
Gabi’s Olympic Cards and Comics | Lacey
My husband and kids love Olympic Cards and Comics, so this is always a must on our list. They carry a huge assortment of comics, gaming books, board and card games, minis, and painting supplies. Owner, Gabi, is a lifesaver. She’s always happy to help me find something for my guys and gal.
Ace Hardware | DuPont
Know someone that loves to smoke meat? Do they talk about their Big Green Egg or Traeger constantly? Do you love it when they feed you? Ace can help you get even more great meals with ALL the smoking accessories. Plus, you probably need to stop somewhere to buy an assortment of batteries, tape, a lighter, and light bulbs, and Ace has you covered there too. Charge your EV out front while you shop!
