first impressions

Walking into this Wi-Fi certified home feels like stepping into a blend of cool tech and cozy convenience, where seamless internet is all around. I’m not embarrassed to admit that this house is cooler than I am, and I love it. The bluetooth enabled keyless entry is pretty handy when hands are full, but the home isn't just tech-savvy; it's comfy and comforting.

about the home

Step inside the main level where tall ceilings, open spaces, clean lines, and neutral colors create a calm backdrop for today’s full lifestyle. Laminate floors stretch throughout, connecting the entry to the great room’s gathering space, flowing into the modern kitchen, and carrying on to the powder bathroom and the fully finished, 2-car garage.

Speaking of kitchens, this one was designed with ease of meal prep and entertaining at the forefront. A long island, generous counter space, and extended upper cabinets offer storage, room to prep, and space to gather, share stories, and create memories. In a nod to form and function, a walk-in pantry is tucked in the corner, under the stairway.

Pass through a sliding glass door beside the kitchen to a patio and fully-fenced backyard. It’s indoor and outdoor living, sorted. The fence was opened and extended aftermarket to expand and enlarge the yard. You’ll notice a condenser, another aftermarket upgrade to add air conditioning for cool and comfortable summer months.

One thing that I adore about this home is that the stairway rises behind the kitchen, unseen upon entry. It’s true to the home’s design and helps the main level feel clean and open while adding a sense of privacy to the rooms on the upper level.

At the top of the stairs, the landing was stretched to create a petite loft. It’s right-sized for a home office, study space, reading nook, and more. A left at the top of the stairs leads into the primary suite where a lovely bedroom, 3/4 bathroom, and walk-in closet await. After purchase, a custom closet system, with cedar lined drawers, was installed to upgrade the primary closet and maximize space. At right at the top of the stairs leads into the little loft and beyond to the remaining 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom, and the ultra convenient upstairs laundry room.

I mentioned the garage earlier, but it’s worth popping back over to learn more about it. Aftermarket, the interior of the garage was finished, the walls painted, and shelving was added. Because of the extra work and because the driveway offers additional parking, the garage truly becomes a flexible space. It’s ready to host an epic home gym, game nights, football rivalries, or whatever hobby comes its way.

Location-wise, this smart home is all about smart living. Trails, parks, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord are close by, bringing nature and accessibility together. Plus, you're a quick 2.7 miles away from shops and restaurants, and nearby I-5 can carry you anywhere you’d like to go. How can I best sum up this home? It's all about blending innovation with comfort for a genuinely modern life.

a little about the community

DuPont is a vibrant community that sits near the border of Pierce and Thurston Counties. Its location and proximity to I-5 make it desirable for people that work on neighboring JBLM and people that commute to Tacoma and Olympia. Adjacent to the Puget Sound, with mountains and state and national forests all around and the ocean an hour and a half away by car, all the beauty and adventure of the Pacific Northwest sits within easy reach.

A rich history graces the area including, among other things, the Sequalitchew Nisqually people, Hudson Bay Company, the production of explosives and munitions by E.I. DuPont de Nemours Company, training maneuvers for Buffalo Soldiers and 5 National Guard units, and gravel mining. Fort Nisqually once stood here, and seeds from the remains of the Fort Nisqually apple orchard were used to create a new orchard a few years ago. During the fall, apples from those historic trees dangle off of young trees.

The town’s 10,000 residents are the only active members of the community. Local wildlife can be observed. Depending on the time of year, residents have the opportunity to watch deer graze, coyote pups play, and an array of birds preen.

DuPont’s town center offers places to stay, eat, shop, and do business. The city is home to an award winning golf course, multiple parks and green spaces, an off-leash dog park, and over 12 miles of trails. For more information, check out the recent DuPont blog, Living in DuPont, WA.

looking for a fun day in the area

Start the day at the new Military Family Store Starbucks on Station Drive, a store dedicated to supporting and employing military veterans and family members. Then, head two exits down I-5 to the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. The freshwater of the Nisqually River flows into the Puget Sound at the refuge, and the River Delta provides habitats for diverse wildlife.

Back in DuPont, there are numerous options for a sit-down lunch, but if you’d like a quiet setting or a change to grab and go with ease, try Mince Mercantile. I recommend following up with a trip to Bliss Small Batch Creamery. Then, spend the afternoon shopping at Pine & Moss and 27 West. Before you head home to prepare dinner, pop into Forward Operating Base Brewing Co for growlers of craft beer or cider.

On Saturday, head to Powderworks Park at 9am to join the flagship chapter of wear blue: run to remember to honor fallen service members and walk, ride, or jog the 3 mile route, passing by Patriot’s Landing and greeting the residents that come out each Saturday to cheer on participants and hand out water and dog treats.
