first impressions
Bright sun filtered between towering trees gives the impression of a happy dreamscape. The greenery and sunshine perfectly contrast the home’s clean lines and crisp, white paint as a rich wood door anchors the home and shares a touch of its past.
about the home
I was immediately drawn to the front door’s swing open viewer. The small, metal viewer opens to offer a peek of the porch from the interior and includes a decorative grid. Fully renovated in 2021, the home displays beautiful updates while maintaining original charm. It’s an easy home to love.
Inside, a wide entry hall awaits. To the right is the living room with the first of two fireplaces topped by a wood beam mantle. At the end of the entry, the home’s heart offers bed and bathrooms down a hallway to the far left, stairs down to the basement to the immediate left, a door to the backyard ahead, and the kitchen and dining to the right. A passageway between the dining and living room holds sweet storage and a built in beverage station complete with a beverage fridge.
Oversized windows breathe natural light into the home. Overhead lights and lamps are rarely needed during daylight hours. When they are needed or wanted, the living room’s smart lights can be adjusted to display different colors and color temperatures. Customized lighting creates the ideal environment to relax, study, read, or host an impromptu dance party.
Floating shelves in the kitchen and beverage bar add airy storage and warmth while two toned cabinets and a reach in pantry provide space for ingredients and supplies. Connected to the living room by a wide passage way, the layout is ideal for both peaceful evenings and entertaining. Opposite the built-in beverage bar, in the passageway, there’s a second built-in storage area that’s perfectly sized to hold a record player and beloved records.
Three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the main level are fantastic, but the real beauty and flexibility can be found in the fully finished basement. Step down to a generous landing perfect for storing games or equipment. A door leads to the lower level laundry room with additional storage before the space opens to a grand room with endless options for work, study, play, workout, and binging favorite shows. The second fireplace adds a cozy vibe and a focal point.
At the far end of the basement, a large room holds promise. With plenty of capacity and closet storage, It makes an excellent enclosed office or fourth bedroom. Kick everything up a notch by adding a third bathroom and creating a new primary suite tucked away from the vibrant core.
What’s not to adore about a corner lot, just over a third of an acre, situated between Gravelly Lake and American Lake? The landscaping is already lovely and can be left as is or expanded into a gardeners dream. The property pledges decades of enjoyment in a home close to everything.

a little about the community
Lakewood is a small city with a population just shy of 64,000 residents that neighbors the Puget Sound and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Named due to its 5 shimmering lakes and 16 parks consisting of more than 540 acres, Lakewood offers tree-lined neighborhoods, historical significance, bustling retail and commercial districts, and a vibrant population.
looking for a fun day in the area
Start the day with donuts and coffee from the local favorite, Original House of Donuts They have an eye pleasing assortment of bejeweled confections, but personally, I don’t think you can top their plain, raised and glazed donuts.
After a sweet start, lose yourself in the parks and playgrounds of Lakewood. Start at Lakewold Gardens , a 10-acre garden estate located right on Gravelly Lake featuring manicured grounds with displays of exotic plants, over 500 rhododendrons, and 8 champion trees. From there, splash on the beach at American Lake Park or put your paddle board or kayak in for a peaceful tour around the lake.
Take your appetite out to lunch! While there are many restaurants to hit, I recommend lunch at a uniquely local spot like one recognized by Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Bruno's European Restaurant Alternatively, try Lakewood’s #1 Korean Restaurant, Ho Soon Yi .
After lunch, go fast at Grand Prix Raceway. Then, head to Fort Steilacoom Park to escape for a bit. Hike the trails, learn about the pre-colonization history of the Steilacoom and Nisqually tribes, take your furry friend to the largest off-leash dog park in the state, and visit Lakewood Farmers Market for all the local produce and goods.
For an over the top, local retreat, sleep at Thornewood Castle a 400 year old Tudor Castle dismantled, shipped to the US, and rebuilt. It’s a one of kind treat!
